Antique Belgian Ange Faucq Travel Trunk – Patented 1893

Exceptional late 19th-century Belgian travel trunk, manufactured by Ange Faucq of Brussels. The original interior label remains present and states that this innovative trunk construction was patented by the Belgian Government on 1 July 1893.

The trunk features a beautifully aged brown exterior with reinforced wooden slats, numerous metal rivets, original corner protectors, locks and leather carrying handles. The curved lid opens to reveal a linen-lined interior with the original pink ribbon latticework and removable interior elements.

The surviving maker’s label describes Faucq’s patented construction as being lighter, more elegant and stronger than conventional wooden trunks of the period, using an exceptionally thin wooden construction.

A wonderful authentic piece of Belgian travel and luggage history, ideal as a statement coffee table, decorative storage trunk or collector’s piece. The untouched patina, original hardware and rare surviving 1893 label give the trunk considerable character.
