Old Delft Polychrome Charger Plate by Jan van der Laan – Louis XIV Motif, Early 18th Century

Rare old Delft polychrome charger attributed to the workshop of Jan van der Laan, dating from the early 18th century. Beautifully hand-painted in cobalt blue, green, manganese, and yellow enamels, the charger features a central flower basket surrounded by a symmetrical Louis XIV (Lodewijk XIV) decorative motif with richly stylised floral and ornamental elements.

Jan van der Laan was one of the notable Delft pottery owners of the period, and pieces from his workshop are highly sought after by collectors. The elegant composition reflects the influence of both Dutch Baroque decoration and contemporary French Louis XIV design, combined with the characteristic craftsmanship of early Delft faience.

The reverse retains old collection labels identifying the charger and further supporting its provenance.
