About the Artist & Isle of Wight Studio Glass
-
Michael Harris (1933–1994) trained at the Royal College of Art and pioneered studio glassmaking in Britain. He founded Mdina Glass in Malta (1969) before establishing Isle of Wight Studio Glass in 1973 at Old Park, St Lawrence
-
His family-run studio became famous for innovative finishes— including “Tortoiseshell,” “Aurene,” “Azurene,” “Golden Peacock,” “Seascape,” and “Summer Fruits”—mixing vibrant colours, iridescence, and precious metal inlays
-
After Michael’s passing, the studio continued under his wife Elizabeth and sons Timothy and Jonathan. Though it liquidated in 2012, it was revived in 2013 at Arreton Barnes Craft Village by Timothy and his uncle, Richard Harris
-
Today, under Timothy Harris, the studio preserves the “Harris Dynasty” legacy—producing award-winning collector's pieces using traditional and modern glass
Why Isle of Wight Studio Glass Matters
