About the Artist – Albert Debois
Albert Debois (also written De Bois) was born in Antwerp in 1938. He studied at the State School of Ghent under O. Landuyt and at the Institute for Decorative Arts in Antwerp. Between 1959 and 1972 he taught visual arts, and from the late 1960s he developed a versatile artistic practice. His work includes drawing, painting, graphic art, sculpture and later also plexiglass portrait reliefs.

In the early 1970s he refined his graphic techniques during a working period in Milan and created a series of lithographs. Debois is known for his sensitive, stylized representations of the human figure. His work is lyrical, balanced and expressive without becoming theatrical. He is listed in the authoritative Belgian artist reference “Piron – Twee Eeuwen Signaturen van Belgische Kunstenaars,” and works by Debois are held in museums in Antwerp, Bruges and Brussels.
