Fang Ceremonial Mask – Gabon

This traditional African ceremonial mask originates from the Fang people of Gabon. The mask is carved from solid wood and features the elongated oval form and restrained facial expression that are characteristic of Fang sculptural traditions. The narrow face, elongated nose, and delicately defined eyes give the piece a calm, meditative presence associated with spiritual and ancestral symbolism.

The surface shows a rich, naturally developed patina with visible wear, surface abrasions, and small marks that reflect age and ritual use. Perforations along the edge indicate former attachment of fibers or costume elements used during ceremonial performances. Traces of old cordage remain present, adding to the authenticity of the object. The interior displays clear hand-carving marks and an original handwritten label identifying Fang, Gabon.

Mounted on a custom metal stand, the mask is ready for display as a sculptural object. Its minimal, powerful form makes it particularly well suited for modern interiors as well as curated collections of tribal or ethnographic art.
