A beautiful and authentic Russian Orthodox icon from the late 18th or early 19th century. This finely painted piece depicts St. Nicholas the Wonderworker, shown in bust as the Bishop of Myra. He holds the Gospel Book in his left hand, while his right hand is raised in a blessing gesture.
On either side of St. Nicholas, Christ and the Mother of God appear in medallions:
-
Left: Christ presents him with a Gospel Book, symbolizing his episcopal authority.
-
Right: The Mother of God hands him a new bishop’s robe, following a popular legend.
This icon is carefully crafted using the traditional tempera technique on a wooden panel. Its warm colors and rich details embody the depth and beauty of Orthodox iconography.
